Dear Friend,

We just completed tax time here in the USA, a season that reminds us of our obligations as earthly citizens. Every country has its tax day—some in spring, some in summer, and some in autumn. Yet, as Christians, we live under two kingdoms: the earthly and temporary and the heavenly and eternal. Jesus’ words in Matthew 22:21, “So give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s” (NIV), and Paul’s teaching in Romans 13 about honoring governing authorities, guide us in navigating this reality.

Jesus’ response to the Pharisees about paying taxes was more than a lesson on civic duty—it pointed to His greater mission. He acknowledged the legitimacy of earthly authority, yet His ultimate purpose was not to reform governments but to redeem sinners. As we fulfill our earthly responsibilities, we remember that our true citizenship is in heaven, secured through Christ’s victory on the cross and His resurrection.

This week, Easter reminds us that no earthly kingdom, government or ruler has the final say over our lives. Even as we honor governing authorities, pay taxes, and obey laws, our hope does not rest in human institutions. Our hope is in the risen Christ, who conquered sin, death, and every power of this world. Paul reassures us in Philippians 3:20, “But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ” (NIV). No matter how imperfect or unjust earthly systems may seem, we trust that God’s rule is eternal, and through Jesus, we belong to a kingdom that will never be shaken.

Just as the early Christians lived under Roman rule, trusting in God’s sovereignty, we too can live as faithful citizens of both kingdoms. When we face policies or leaders with which we disagree, we pray for wisdom, discernment, and strength—knowing that our resurrected Savior reigns above all. Through His victory, we are not only responsible citizens but also ambassadors of the Gospel, sharing the love, peace, and grace that Christ secured through His death and resurrection.

As we move through this season of taxes and government responsibilities, let Easter fill our hearts with the greater truth: Jesus lives, and because He lives, we are free—not just from earthly burdens, but from sin and death itself. In Christ’s resurrection, we have a King who reigns forever, and His rule brings true justice, peace, and salvation to everyone.

Happy Easter to you and your family!

Warm Regards,

Paul, Justin, David
